14 Simple And Safe Ways To Remove Henna

Henna is a traditional body art that has been very popular in India and Middle East since ages.
Today Henna has become famous all across the globe and is now seen as a fashion trend.  Henna is applied with henna paste which soaks the top layers of the skin and binds to the keratin. Henna when applied looks simply lovely. Henna tattoo however is temporary and stays for around 2 weeks after which the color begins to fades off. Many a times, we make such excessive filling of henna on our hands and decorate it so profusely that it gets stuck and just refuses to leave. There are no ready made henna removal products available in the market but there are a number of things that can fade the color of the henna and make it light. But to get completely rid of it, you have to be a bit patient and let it happen naturally. You can however, speed up the process in a number of ways.

In this article we will discuss some of the most effective answers on how to remove henna from hands and feet.

1. Bleaching is the most common and effective method of removing henna tattoo.  Take a regular bleach, (one that is used for face and hands) and apply it on the henna. Rinse your hands completely as soon as it dries. You can also dip your hand in cold water post this method. This will fade the color greatly


2. Make a thick paste using baking soda and lemon juice. Spread the paste over henna and leave it for 10 minutes.  When it dries completely, exfoliate your hand using a soft loofah, rubbing in circular motion. Then rinse your hand under warm water. Repeat this process if necessary. Apply a proper hand moisturizer after completing the process as this paste can dry out your hands completely.


3. Take some chlorine in a small bowl and add some hot water to it. Dip your hands in this solution for 2 to 3 minutes. You will witness some irritation and itchiness but it will vanish soon and will help fade the henna as well.


4. Dip your hands in warm water for some time and then rub it. Repeat this procedure several times to hasten the process of henna tattoo removal.


5. You can also try lemon juice to remove henna. Squeeze juice from 1 lime and rub your hands with it.


6. Wash your hands every half an hour, or at least 10 to 12 times a day with soap. Opt for anti-bacterial soaps as it works best for exfoliation purpose. This is the most convenient of all the methods mentioned but will definitely take some time to fade completely


7. Toothpaste can also be a great help in removing tattoo. Apply toothpaste on the areas from where you wish to remove the henna and when it dries, rub your hands to remove the color.


8. You can also try this simple method of rubbing hair conditioner on your henna filled hands to fade henna color.


9. Olive oil works as an excellent emulsifier for henna stains and is the simplest and gentlest method of removing henna stain. Take a small cotton ball and soak it in olive oil, place the cotton on your hands and swipe it all across the hands. You can also mix olive oil with some salt to speed up the process.  Let the oil penetrate into the skin for at least 10 minutes. Do this regularly in a gap of few hours. Olive oil is also an excellent moisturizer and it is completely safe to use it.


10. Soak a cotton swab in hydrogen peroxide and rub it on your hands smoothly. After some time, you will notice the stain lightening. This technique does not work for all skin types, so do a patch test first before applying it on your entire hand.  This solution is available in most drugstores and is a nontoxic, benign solution.



11. Soak your hands in salt water for 20 minutes. Salt will make the henna ink diffuse in water and will gradually fade the henna stain with regular usage.



12. Spend time in the sun to fade the stains.  But you need to exercise proper precautions as sun rays can be very harmful for the skin.

13. You can also use some dead skin remover to remove henna. But do an allergy test before applying the remover.  This will not erase the henna stain completely but will reduce the stain to a great extent. All you need to do is rub the dead skin remover on the areas and in no time you will see the stain disappearing.

14. Sweat and perspiration also aids in removing these stubborn stains. So start exercising, especially aerobic exercise which will cause perspiration and will fade henna stains. In fact any activity that causes heavy sweating will help in the removal of dead skin which will eventually remove the tattoo stains. So you can even opt for other activities like jogging, playing, bike riding, playing squash and so on.
